Nursing leadership styles have changed as time passes as leadership theories allow us (Marquis & Hutson, 2009). The 1900's brought about a large number of theories and theorists on leadership and management variations. The new century has also helped bring new hypotheses and leadership styles to nursing attention (Marquis & Hutson, 2009). Two distinct leadership styles, which were initial identified in 2004 by a noted college student named Melts away, are transactional and life changing leadership (Marquis & Hutson, 2009). Transactional leadership is known as a more traditional style of leadership and it is where the leader sets goals, gives directions, and uses a reward program to motivate employee's behaviors related to meeting goals (Marquis & Hutson, 2009). Life changing leadership requires a dedication, a clear perspective of the future and involves the best engaging or motivating others to endeavor towards a vision. (Marquis & Hutson, 2009). Following researching different theories and fashions of management, it is determined that my style can be identified as transformational with attributes of the democratic leadership style. Qualities of any transformational leader include id of common values, determination, and inspiration, has aggressive vision, examines effects and empowers other folks (Marquis & Huston, 2009). Democratic command style, that was identified by simply Lewin, Light and Lippitt in 1951-1960 according to Marquis & Huston (2009). The democratic leader shows the following qualities: less control, motivational prizes are given, decisions are made together, team emphasis and constructive criticism can be used (Marquis & Huston, 2009). " A team can be defined inside the Oxford book as a group of people coming together to achieve one common aim” (Clegg, 2000, l. 1). Clegg continues to claim that " in health care that common aim is defined as superior quality, individualized wellness care” (Clegg, 2000, p. 1). My personal philosophy of nursing management is...
